Missing the Key to Sales Growth
When I first started my farm business, I had no idea what I was doing when it came to marketing. Honestly, I thought all I needed was a good product, Facebook posts, and word-of-mouth would do the rest.
I believed I had to be established first before thinking about things like websites or email lists. I couldn’t have been more wrong.
The #1 Mistake: Not Collecting Emails
The truth is, the biggest mistake I made was not collecting customer emails from day one. At farmers markets (clip board with a sign-up sheet), on social media, and even on my website, I didn’t ask people to join my email list because I thought, “I’ll worry about that later.”
But as time went on, I realized I was missing out on one of the most important parts of running a business—building direct relationships with customers.
The Cost of Missing Out
I can’t tell you how many times I lost track of a potential customer simply because I didn’t have a way to follow up with them. I’m talking large beef shares and significant sales.
I spent hours trying to come up with new ways to sell my products—running ads, creating social media posts, and waiting for people to come back to the market. But I didn’t have a reliable way to keep them engaged with my farm once they’d left.
Worse yet, I was losing sales because people forgot about my farm all together!
Looking back, I wish I had started collecting emails from day one. Just like I wish I had started documenting my journey on video (something to think about as people love to follow a story), I regret not building an email list early.
It would have saved me so much time and helped me make so many more sales by keeping customers engaged and updated about new products.
The Simple Solution: Start Collecting Emails Today
The good news is, it’s never too late to start. If you’re thinking, “But I’m just starting out” or “I’m not ready yet,” trust me—don’t wait!
You don’t need to be established to start collecting emails and building relationships with your customers. In fact, the sooner you start, the better. 📨
To make it easy, I put together a quick tutorial showing you how to set up a free email capture and landing page using ConvertKit. It’s simple, doesn’t require any tech skills, and will have you collecting emails in no time. Oh, and it’s FREE!!
